What the Register is

A studbook keeps a card for every cat: name, date, colour, what the judges wrote. This site borrows that habit for the whole breed. Each entry in the Register is a card about one part of the Maine Coon; the standard, the coat, the heart, the kitten's first months; dated, sourced, and corrected in public.

Who keeps the Register

The Register is kept by a small editorial desk, not by a club, a registry or a cattery. The desk reads the published standards of the major associations, the veterinary literature on the breed's known conditions, and the show rules that decide what a judge rewards. Then it writes one entry at a time, in plain English, for the person who lives with the cat or is about to.

How the Register stands

The Register keeps no litters, holds no waiting list and endorses no breeder. Pages that once lived at this address belonged to another era of the domain; the Register holds none of their records and claims none of their cats. Entries cite the published standards of every association without favouring one over another, and nothing here stands in for a veterinarian's examination.

Corrections

Every entry is dated. When a standard changes or a reader shows the desk a better source, the entry is amended and the date moves. Corrections are part of the Register's work, not an embarrassment to it.
